  2. Into The Fray Again for TBS, TBEA's One and Only Approved Official Guide ▲Top
After using three bicycle guides for many years (TBS and two TBGs), Taiwan's cycle suppliers are economizing and foreign buyers are wary. In light of this undesirable situation, and because of the global recession and shrinking profit margins, limited marketing budgets, and the need for thrift, the Taiwan Bicycle Exporters' Association (TBEA) evaluates Taiwan's three cycle publications fairly, justly and transparently. TBEA's intention is to resolve firms' dilemmas and achieve greater integration by selecting the cycle publication that is most authoritative, most professional, most trustworthy, and most eager to serve the industry. The chosen publication is the bicycle industry's international marketing mouthpiece, helping firms to use their advertising and marketing budgets effectively. After the TBEA conducted a review conference, and the review team had examined the companies' qualifications, credibility, professionalism, international trade show participation, publishing capability, and contact with the industry, it again unanimously decided TBS would be the sole TBEA-approved Official Guide of the industry. TBS will certainly be the best and the biggest advertising vehicle for the industry, and will unquestionably give firms the most bang for their advertising buck. Wheel Giant will be in Area G0241 in Hall 3 at the 2005 Taipei International Cycle Show (3/4~3/7). We welcome international buyers to make suggestions, and pick up a free copy of 2005~2006 TBS, TBS Pocket Issue, and Bike Market Update's Taipei Show Edition, and reserve a free 2005~2006 TBS CD-ROM! 3. Implementation Of The Kyoto Protocol February 16, 2005 ▲Top
Today the international Kyoto protocol controlling emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases blamed for global warming and climate change came into effect. It seeks to control emissions of six heat-trapping gases: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, and sulphur hexafluoride. This treaty distributes emission reduction percentage targets, compared with an 1890 benchmark, amongst 35 industrialized nations out of the 140 that originally ratified the agreement. These 35 countries can trade emissions targets amongst themselves like commodities. Industrial plants that manage to significantly reduce their carbon output can sell the shortfall as !?carbon credits!| to those who go over their agreed carbon limits. Nations can earn carbon credits for developing emissions-reduction projects in other countries party to the pact. Countries can even get out of their protocol obligations by carrying out emissions-reduction projects in developing countries which have signed up to Kyoto but which haven!|t promised to cut their carbon emissions. Bicycle manufacturers who are interested in trading their carbon emissions as a commodity internationally should see r0.unctad.org/ghg/sitecurrent/carbon_mi/kyoto.html the website of UNCTAD , and the Earth Council Institute Carbon Market Programme, for further information.
